My first glimpse of the day from my bedroom window......

View from my bedroom window……

Boxted is a very photogenic village at the best of times, but on this particular morning it looked like a ‘magical kingdom’ – with everything covered in a pure white sparkling icing.
The sun was shining brilliantly in an icy-blue sky and creating beautiful effects on the frosty coatings of plants and trees – making their leaves look like works of art…..Even ordinary things like fences and gateposts took on a beauty that raised them above their normal mundane existence.
They were new vistas at every turn – and I tried some general shots with my 5D with the 24-105 lens on – up until the point that my hands were ‘burning’ with the cold. I retreated to my house to warm up with a cup of tea, and then ventured out again with the EF100 mm IS USM Macro lens to hopefully capture some close-ups of the plants.
This was one of my first photo shoots with the new camera – so I was experimenting with AP mode – and Depth of Field. It is not easy without a tripod, and I think any future ‘Macro’ outings will have to involve taking my tripod too. Here are my favourite shots of the morning – my ‘berries’ image is probably my favourite close up – which I have actually made into a Christmas card for 2013 !
As always with me, these are ‘works in progress’, but every outing teaches you something new to carry forward to the next one. I cannot wait for the next ‘frosty Winter Wonderland’…….

    • Thanks LB – It was one of the most beautiful mornings I have experienced here in Boxted – I’m so glad I was off work that day…. I was very critical of my frosty fence, as I was unsure I had got the Depth of Field quite right – so I am really pleased that you like it.
